- I've been having odd, random crashes with my system recently.
-
- My system: A4000/040 25MHz, OS 3.0, 18 MB RAM, 850 MB HD, Cybervision 64
- (2MB), 17" Multiscanning monitor :), Cybergfx v. 2.14u (latest version). I'm
- also running the old A2360 Flickerfixer card (remember from the A2000 days?)
- to allow me to see NTSC screens on the multiscanning monitor (this seems to
- work fine : tested at the store (Wonder computers) and on my A4000!).
-
- Problem: When using the Amiga, I'll get seemingly random crashes where as soon
- as an input event (mouse click or keypress) is entered, the system really
- crashes HARD! What I get is the screen instantly changing to a WB-grey color
- with a repeating set of lines (vertical) in the colors of the screen's
- pallette (only the usual WB pen colors - blue, white, black, MWB colors),
- which looks somehwhat like a giant UPC symbol.
-
- Like I said, this occurs at random, and has happened while I was about to
- enter a command on the CLI, open a window on WB, click a button in THOR, etc
- etc. Non reproducible. Happens in all sorts of memory situations (from fresh
- boot to working with the internet for a while).
-
- I should note that these problems came up upon upgrading to the 17" monitor
- and installing the A2360 flickerfixer. I don't think the monitor is at fault
- in and of itself since the OS doesn't see it. I'm using WB screens of
- 1152x900x256 colors.
-
- I've not been able to trace it to any commodities I'm running, but I'm
- currently trying the system out without any commodities to see if I'm able to
- have a crash with it.
-
- I'm currently entertaining the following possibilities:
-
- 1. Commodity incompatability (was running the following: Aswarm 2.0,
- Class Action, CrossDOS, Cycletomenu, Forceicon, GrabIFF, Magic
- Menu, MFR_030, Mousometer, Multiclock, MultiCX (latest), NewMode
- (latest), Note-it, Patchpointer, PowerManager (a VESA Energy star
- monitor blanker from Wonder Computing), Powersnap, RexxMast,
- ScreenMenu, SwanzInfo, ToolManager 2.1a, ToolsDaemon, Virus
- Checker)
- 2. Cybergfx driver problems
- 3. CV 64 card problem (? not enough video RAM???)
- 4. Hardware conflict with A2360 card (although the card is transparent
- to the OS, so I don't think it's that) 5. Other????
-
- I *KNOW* I'm running tons of commodities, but almost all of these were on my
- system prior to upgrading to the 17" monitor and the A2360. I was running the
- CV64 on a 1960 monitor at 800x600 with the above commodities and had NO
- crashes like that above. Of course, I'm now doing the lengthy process of
- sorting though wich commodity may be the culprit (Startup Manager sure helps).
- I'm hoping someone out there has a more direct answer.
-
- Thanks!!
- - Steve.
